During the season, these rankings -- which appear on Mondays in concert with the NHL Power Rankings -- are based on player production in terms of Hockey Prospectus' GVT valuation metric. If you are unfamiliar with GVT and how it works, you can find more here.

Check out the full rankings below. We'll be back every Monday with new editions.

Player Power Rankings: Skaters

These rankings are based on games through Feb. 13.

Rank Player OGVT/GGVT DGVT SGVT GVT
1. Steven Stamkos, F, Tampa Bay Lightning 17.5 2.6 -1.1 19.0

Comment: If Stamkos keeps his lead in the scoring race, he would become the third-youngest scoring champion in NHL history, behind Sidney Crosby and Wayne Gretzky.

2. Daniel Sedin, F, Vancouver Canucks 16.7 2.1 -0.2 18.6

Comment: Daniel's scoring numbers are especially driven by the power-play: His 31 power-play points are tops in the league, and the Canucks unit is No. 1 with a 25.4 percent success rate.

3. Sidney Crosby, F, Pittsburgh Penguins 15.7 2.4 -0.2 17.8

Comment: Despite being out for five weeks, Crosby still leads the league with 47 points at even strength.

4. Ryan Kesler, F, Vancouver Canucks 11.1 4.7 -0.2 15.6

Comment: Of the NHL's top 20 scorers, no one can match Kesler's 2:23 of short-handed ice time per game.

5. Brad Richards, F, Dallas Stars 11.6 1.7 1.9 15.3

Comment: Want to know why the Stars play Richards so much? At 5-on-5, they've averaged 3.08 goals per 60 minutes with him on the ice, and 2.01 goals without.

6. Kris Letang, D, Pittsburgh Penguins 8.2 5.2 1.0 14.4

Comment: Most of the NHL's top scoring defensemen are power-play specialists; of the six with 40-plus points, only Letang and Nicklas Lidstrom are regulars on the penalty kill as well.

7. Jonathan Toews, F, Chicago Blackhawks 8.8 3.5 1.6 13.9

Comment: Toews is second in the league with 623 faceoff wins, only five behind Manny Malhotra.

8. Martin St. Louis, F, Tampa Bay Lightning 12.1 2.2 -0.6 13.8

Comment: Opponents have been whistled for penalties on St. Louis 25 times this season, yet he himself has taken only four, so St. Louis has single-handedly obtained 21 man advantages for his team.

9. Jeff Carter, F, Philadelphia Flyers 11.3 2.1 0.0 13.5

Comment: Few players are better at getting scoring chances than Carter: His 230 shots are fifth in the league, but 18 of them have been off rebounds, tied for first (with John Tavares).

10. Henrik Sedin, F, Vancouver Canucks 11.2 2.2 0.0 13.4

Comment: Sedin is on pace to put together back-to-back seasons of 80-plus assists, a feat that has only been accomplished once since the 1995 lockout (by Joe Thornton, in 2005-07).

Player Power Rankings: Goalies

These rankings are based on games through Feb. 13.

Rank Player OGVT/GGVT DGVT SGVT GVT

1. Tim Thomas, G, Boston Bruins 34.8 -0.8 -2.3 31.7

Comment: Thomas had his worst game of the season on Wednesday, giving up six goals in an 8-6 victory against Montreal. It was only the fourth time this season he's given up more than three goals in a game.

2. Pekka Rinne G, Nashville Predators 19.2 0.3 3.9 23.4

Comment: It's a little-known fact that officials at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena overcount shots, which is why Nashville goaltenders always have such high save percentages. That's why Rinne's career save percentage is .925 at home and only .908 on the road.

3. Jonas Hiller, G, Anaheim Ducks 20.9 -1.7 3.7 22.9

Comment: Curtis McElhinney has been solid in three consecutive starts for Anaheim, but the Ducks can't wait to have Hiller back.

4. Marc-Andre Fleury, G, Pittsburgh Penguins 16.4 0.4 2.0 18.9

Comment: Incredibly, despite Sidney Crosby's and Kris Letang's seasons and his own poor start, Fleury has emerged to be the Penguins' MVP this year.

5. Henrik Lundqvist, G, New York Rangers 14.2 0.1 4.0 18.4

Comment: Lundqvist's last four games have been poor, with an overall GAA of 3.59 and a save percentage of .856, but make no mistake: The Rangers would not be in the playoff picture without him.
