Rank Player OGVT/GGVT DGVT SGVT GVT
1. Phil Kessel, F, Toronto Maple Leafs 4.4 0.6 -0.3 4.8

Comment: While you can give our VUKOTA projections credit for calling for a 70-point career year from 24-year-old Phil Kessel, no one thinks he's going to keep up 33.3% shooting or 1.88 points per game.

2. Matt Cooke, F, Pittsburgh Penguins 1.6 2.1 0.0 3.7

Comment: Cooke's being here is a blip. GVT bases PK time on PK goals against, and Pittsburgh's only given up one power play goal, so Cooke is getting one-third of the credit for Pittsburgh's insanely good penalty kill.

3. Daniel Sedin, F, Vancouver Canucks 3.1 0.2 0.1 3.4

Comment: Brother Henrik has led the NHL in assists for the last two seasons, but Daniel's eight helpers is pacing the league in the early going.

4. John Tavares, F, New York Islanders 3.0 0.3 0.0 3.3

Comment: The gaudy 27.3% shooting won't last, but the former first round pick stands a good chance to surpassing VUKOTA's 74-point projection. Now if the Islanders could only get the Grabner-Nielsen-Okposo line going…

5. Dion Phaneuf, D, Toronto Maple Leafs 2.3 0.9 0.0 3.2

Comment: Phaneuf last exceeded 0.50 points per game as a Flame in 2008-09. Clearly, 1.13 points per game is a fluke of major proportions.

6. Jason Spezza, F, Ottawa Senators 2.5 0.1 0.4 3.1

Comment: Spezza's 16.0% shooting isn't much higher than his 14.4% career mark while his 1.38 points per game isn't wildly higher than the 1.21-1.32 points per game he put up in the first three seasons after the Lockout.

7. James Neal, F, Pittsburgh Penguins 2.6 -0.1 0.4 3.0

Comment: He's definitely hot and cold: Neal has scored on 20.5% of his shots in 10 games this season, after recording a pitiful 1.9% rate in 20 games with the Pens last season.

8. Tyler Seguin, F, Boston Bruins 1.6 0.9 0.4 2.9

Comment: A little more playing time goes a long way: the former second overall pick has tallied more than a point per game while capturing part of the NHL lead at plus-7.

9. Milan Michalek, F, Ottawa Senators 2.4 0.0 0.4 2.9

Comment: Michalek has scored four of his six goals on the power play, and another into an empty net.

10. Henrik Sedin, F, Vancouver Canucks 2.4 0.4 0.0 2.8

Comment: Among players with at least 10 minutes of ESTOI per game, Henrik leads the league with 76.6% offensive zone starts.

Rank Player OGVT/GGVT DGVT SGVT GVT
1. Jonathan Quick, G, Los Angeles Kings 9.5 0.0 -0.9 8.7

Comment: Quick hopes that three shutouts in a row bodes for more long-term success for him than it did for Steve Mason.

2. Kari Lehtonen, G, Dallas Stars 8.7 -0.3 0.1 8.5

Comment: Lehtonen leads the NHL with seven wins, but the .955 save percentage is due for a fall back down to earth.

3. Henrik Lundqvist, G, New York Rangers 6.0 -0.3 0.4 6.2

Comment: In 2010-11, Lundqvist led the league with 11 shutouts in 68 games. With one clean sheet in six games, he's back on the same pace.

4. Tomas Vokoun, G, Washington Capitals 5.6 -0.2 0.6 6.0

Comment: Are you sure he's overrated and not clutch? Might have been that Panthers thing.

5. Ryan Miller, G, Buffalo Sabres 5.5 0.0 0.0 5.5

Comment: Miller's hoping to pull a Tim Thomas, by winning a Vezina two years apart. He's certainly got a team in front of him that can help him get wins.
