Rank Player OGVT/GGVT DGVT SGVT GVT
1. Phil Kessel, F, Toronto Maple Leafs 5.7 1.1 -0.2 6.6

Comment: You're doing well when "no goals in four games" is the worst anyone can say about you. The Kessel-led Leafs still have the third-highest goals-for average (3.11) in the league.

2. Claude Giroux, F, Philadelphia Flyers 4.9 1.1 -0.2 5.7

Comment: Giroux has been amazing at making people forget the Flyers' two traded centers. On the best offensive team in the league, he leads in all major offensive categories. Shockingly, the Flyers' problem has been…Goaltending.

3. Marian Hossa, F, Chicago Blackhawks 4.1 1.0 0.0 5.1

Comment: Traditional stats see the Blackhawks' penalty-killing as mediocre, but they ignore the fact that the Hawks have scored three short-handed goals, tops in the league. Hossa has one.

4. Tyler Seguin, F, Boston Bruins 3.5 1.1 0.5 5.0

Comment: Rarely are two players who were traded for each other competing this highly in the rankings. Seguin has the second-best relative plus-minus (RPM) in the league at plus-9.0.

5. Joffrey Lupul, F, Toronto Maple Leafs 3.6 0.9 0.0 4.5

Comment: The Leafs forwards excel if you can use them correctly; Lupul has played all of six seconds short-handed this season.

6. Nicklas Backstrom, F, Washington Capitals 4.7 0.2 0.0 4.9

Comment: After his mediocre season last year, we have to remember that Backstrom put up 101 points in 2009-10. He has points on 10 of Washington's 11 power-play goals.

7. Patrick Kane, F, Chicago Blackhawks 3.6 0.8 0.5 4.8

Comment: Only 30 forwards in the league average more than 20 minutes of ice time per game. Three of them are Blackhawks, with Kane joined by Hossa and Jonathan Toews.

8. M-A Bergeron, D, Tampa Bay Lightning 4.1 0.5 0.0 4.6

Comment: Bergeron is the textbook example of a one-dimensional player, but a one-dimensional defenseman who's top-10 in points and leads the league in assists has decent value. Even so, Bergeron only has 27% of his points on the power-play vs. a career average of 54%.

9. Joe Pavelski, F, San Jose Sharks 3.9 0.8 -0.2 4.5

Comment: The Sharks may look middle-of-the-pack in the West, but with the second-best shot differential in the league, that'll improve.

10. Sean Couturier, F, Philadelphia Flyers 2.5 1.9 0.0 4.4

Comment: Couturier only has eight points, but his penalty-killing work and team-leading plus-9 mean he has the fifth-best defensive GVT in the league.

1. Nikolai Khabibulin, G, Edmonton Oilers 10.3 0.2 -0.7 9.8

Comment: Khabibulin's only game this week was a shutout vs. LA which brought his goals-against-average back below 1.00.

2. Kari Lehtonen, G, Dallas Stars 8.4 -0.5 1.2 9.2

Comment: Of the goaltenders who have played 10 games or more, only Jonathan Quick has a better save percentage than Lehtonen's .936.

3. Josh Harding, G, Minnesota Wild 7.9 -0.2 0.0 7.7

Comment: Harding has only played five games, but he's allowed one goal or less in four of them and his .965 save percentage leads the league.

4. Jonathan Quick, G, Los Angeles Kings 8.8 0.1 -1.4 7.5

Comment: A weak performance in the shootout has been Quick's Achilles heel, although he's slowed down in his last five games, stopping only 90.1% of shots.

5. Marc-Andre Fleury, G, Pittsburgh Penguins 5.7 0.2 1.5 7.3

Comment: Fleury is the only top-10 goaltender from last season who's among the top 10 so far this year.
